Leasehold Reforms

The silence from the Government as regards to Leasehold Reforms has been deafening!

The main reason for this is that everyone is awaiting the result of the Judicial Review being held in July in relation to the challenge by various Freeholders over the provisions of the Leasehold and Freehold Reform Act 2024 which will lead to a loss of their  income in relation to "Marriage Value" under Lease Extensions and in relation to freehold enfranchisements

It would seem that any real progress on Leasehold Reforms will be dependant upon the resolution of this issue

The Leasehold Knowledge Partnership did endeavour to intervene (on the side of the Government) in the Judicial Review, but that was rejected by the High Court

Insurance Fees

I have previously reported (January 2025 Latest News) that the Government held a Consultation on proposals to increase the fairness and transparency of buildings insurance fees charged to Leaseholders. That Consultation closed in February and the Government are now considering the responses
